D-Day Tour Summary and Cost

Why take a private tour?

Because you have travelled a long way to visit the historic D-Day sites and you do not want to run the risk of having your appreciation distracted by anyone else unknown outside of your group or family. By all means talk about the sites you have seen with fellow guests before dinner in your hotel, but retain the initial experience 100% to yourselves.

Also... You will not have to worry about finding "collection points" – Michael will drive to your hotel or railway station. There are no hidden extras in the daily price except for museum entry costs. Travel using a comfortable air conditioned MPV – not a tour bus. Ideal for people with mobility problems, and keeping to your pace of travel.

Michael Phillips, born in 1952, was established in 1996 as an experienced professional tour guide of the D-Day sites in Normandy. English is his first language. All his tours are private – he has learned that the single tour party where everyone knows each other and is happy to maintain a pace that is comfortable for everyone is of considerable importance. Singles, couples, families, veterans and friends traveling together are his speciality.

There will be many questions that you will want to ask, but first and foremost you need to see what is on offer and how much it costs.

How do I get to Normandy?

If coming from within France. If coming from Paris, the best route is by train, visit SNCF for details of the service from St Lazare railway station to either Bayeux or Caen. Kindly arrange to arrive as early as possible on the first day of tour, or arrive the day before and stay locally overnight (see below) for a 9am start the following day.

If coming from the UK. Alternatively, you can be collected and returned to your London hotel or UK destination. Please note that crossings to Normandy will be via the comfortable and large cruise ships or high speed ferries operated by Brittany Ferries. The Channel Tunnel can be used, but it will be a much longer drive.

Tours may be taken individually or together in a stay of several days.

My fee is GBP 325 Pounds Sterling (approx. 460 Euros) per day for your party of 4/5 people (6 people without luggage) inclusive of all miles of travel by car and a comprehensive historical narrative at each site visited.

Please note that my tours are private and I do not mix groups.

You would pay your hotel upon departure, and I can recommend and reserve on where to stay depending upon your level of requirement. You pay your own museum entry costs (nominal, but veterans visit free), lunches and the like.
